Terms of Service

CostaSecret is an editorial directory and travel guide for the Costa del Sol in Andalusia, Spain. We catalogue local businesses, write editorial content, and operate the Sol AI concierge and Sol's Daily quiz.

We are not a tour operator, a booking agent, a payment processor or an escrow service. We do not sell tickets, hotel rooms or meals. Where the site links to a booking partner, the contract for that booking is between you and the partner, never with us.

You can play Sol's Daily anonymously. Your streak and stats live in your browser's local storage tied to a random identifier we generate for you.

If you choose to claim a nickname, you create a public identity tied to that nickname. Nicknames must be 2 to 20 characters using letters, digits, dot, dash or space. You must not impersonate another person, use offensive language, or violate someone else's trademark.

If you add an email, we send a passwordless magic link via Supabase Authentication and bind your email to the player record so your streak survives a device change. You can stop using the account at any time by emailing us at the address in section 12.

Most listings on CostaSecret are built from public sources such as the Google Maps Places API, public business registers and the businesses' own websites. We add editorial context (category, town, brief description) on top of that public data.

Business owners can claim their listing at /claim/[business-slug]. A verified owner can update photos, contact details, opening hours, a three-sentence AI summary and a small FAQ. Owner content is the owner's responsibility and must be accurate.

If you are an owner and want a listing edited or removed, email us at the address in section 12 from the business email associated with that listing.

Some content on the site is generated by AI models (for example, the three-sentence business summaries and Sol's chat answers). AI output can be wrong, outdated or incomplete. Always verify time-sensitive details (prices, opening hours, availability) with the business directly before you rely on them.

Sol the concierge is a virtual assistant. It does not replace human local knowledge and it does not have access to real-time inventory.

Some outbound links on the site are affiliate links. If you book or buy through them we may earn a commission. This never costs you more than booking directly.

We never accept payment in exchange for inclusion in editorial picks. The directory itself is built from public data and editorial judgement, not from sponsorship. If a placement is sponsored we will label it as such.

When you use the site you agree not to scrape it for republication, spam claim or contact forms, attempt to extract personal data of other players, abuse the Sol concierge, or interfere with the operation of the site by automated means.

We may rate-limit, suspend or block anyone who violates these limits, without notice.

When you submit content (a nickname, an owner-edited listing, a Sol's Daily attempt, a contact form), you grant CostaSecret a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and use that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the site.

You retain ownership of your content. You confirm that you have the right to submit it and that it does not violate anyone else's rights.

The CostaSecret brand, the Sol concierge wordmark, the editorial text written by our team, the photographic compositions we publish and the database structure that drives the site are protected by intellectual property rights and remain ours.

Business names, logos and opening hours belong to the businesses they describe. Photography fetched from Unsplash and similar sources is used under the providers' own licences.

We provide the site on an 'as-is' and 'as-available' basis. We work to keep listings accurate but cannot guarantee that every detail is current at every moment.

We are not responsible for the actions, products or services of third-party businesses listed on the site, nor for the content of websites we link to.

To the maximum extent allowed by Dutch law and any mandatory consumer protections, our total liability to you in connection with the site is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Where you have paid nothing, that amount is zero.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, lost profits, or lost data, regardless of how they arose.

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent court in the Netherlands.

If you are a consumer based in the European Union, you keep any rights granted to you by your home country's mandatory consumer protection rules.

We may update these terms when the platform changes. We publish the current version on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.
