Do I need a "Carnet de Frigorista" to install AC?
You as the customer do not. The installer does — it is the licence that allows them to handle refrigerant gas legally. Confirm the business holds it before booking; without it, your warranty is void and the install is technically illegal in Spain.
Should I choose Daikin, Mitsubishi, or a Spanish brand like Saunier Duval?
Daikin and Mitsubishi are the long-term reliability leaders on the Costa del Sol — installers stock parts and the warranty network is solid. Saunier Duval and other European brands are 15-25 percent cheaper up front but slower for after-sales parts. For a primary unit, pay for Daikin; for a secondary bedroom unit, the Spanish brands are fine.
